We have an event committee working on The Hastings Winkle Club Jazz and Blues Fest.
Each member of our team gives their time and expertise for free, in the hope of helping the famous old Winkle Club to raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes. At the same time giving the local community and visitors to the town a great live music experience and a superb weekend to remember!
Mike Raxworthy – Festival Director
Passionate about live music, Mike books the bands, arranges the sound and staging, as well as pulling in the participating pubs and bars and programming the whole event. Gathering the Sponsorship to cover our costs and sorting out some of the marketing is also part of his job.
For the last few years he’s been involved with doing the same thing on ‘The Nearly on the Beach Concert’ for The High Street Traders Assoc. – raising money for The RNLI and associated sea-faring charities.
His other current music concerts include The Hastings Mid-Summer Fish Fest, The Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival, the Hastings Herring Fair and The Christmas Charity Soul Party.
With over 50 years experience in the arts and entertainment industry; Mike has worked with artists such as The Beatles, David Cassidy, The Monkees, Chas Chandler and Slade, Chris Rea, The Police, Jimmy Page, Duran Duran, Elton John and Oscar Peterson to name but a few.
Ian Porter (BEM) – Event Management and Treasurer
Ian has been involved in Community Events in Hastings for the past 30 years. He has very close connections with Hastings Old Town, having been the co-ordinator of Hastings Old Town Carnival Week events for over 20 years. As chair for The High Street Traders Association he is also heavily involved with the new ‘Nearly on the Beach Concert’. He was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to Heritage and to the community of Hastings Old Town, in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Garry Fellows – Chairman of this year’s Festival Committee, Security and Senior Warden!
Garry has a wealth of experience in the event field and specialises in Security and Marshall Management. He’s the first guy we turn to when we need Risk Assessments and the maze of Rules and Regulations looked at. Apart from extreme involvement with Winkle Club Charity Events, he plays a big part in putting on The Hastings Pirate Day and now The Bexhill 60’s Revolution He’s also a great fan of “The Breakfast Meeting” and or course an expert on “The Full English!”
Jackie Pratt Event Management and Merchandising
Jackie works on a whole host of events in Hastings including being on the Advisory Commitee of The Mid-Summer Fish Fest, The Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival and The Hastings Herring Fair for HBC.
Her excellent work for charities includes The Bonfire Boys Firework night Events, The Nearly on the Beach Concert, Hastings Carnival and of course the Jazz and Blues Fest.
Pauline Lindsay – Chair of the Event Committee
Pauline chairs the many meetings of The Winkle Club Jazz and Blues Festival Committee. She also has been involved with the Old Town Remembrance Procession for The Winkle Club, as well as reviving the Winkle Clubs very successful Children’s Christmas Party! She was recently treasurer and got sponsorship funding for The Ghost of Dunkirk fund-raising Film and Concert in St Mary in the Castle with Mike and Garry, which raised £4000 towards the reburb of The Cyril and Lillian Bishop Lifeboat.
Alan Swann – Creative Director & Designer
Years and years in Design and Marketing, as well as teaching, qualifies Alan to do our design and artwork.
He’ll always find time, despite extremely busy times running his own studio and business, to come up with our very colourful artworks!
Bruce Dowling – Fund Raising and Event Management
Ex-Mayor of Hastings, Bruce is a stanch supporter of The Winkle Club. With contacts in the Hastings and Bexhill area is is brilliant at finding places to put up our posters and distributing out marketing material.
